Just as a point of fact, you're not 'anti social'..that means you donlt know right from wrong, that you don't have a conscience. I doubt that's what you meant, i think you were thinking 'asocial' which means 'Withdrawn', as in not at all social. Which canlt be right, either. So, you're just really shy. It's a guy thing, and really normal. I also doubt you're GW Bush, btw...

The easiest way to strike up a convo is to take a nice, level swing at the pitch and just try to get on base here...most guys wanna knock it out of the park. It doesn't happen that way, there's no "WOW!" in first convo's..when they try for that, they end up striking out.

So, I;d suggest you start off real slow and gradually build up to it over many encounters...start with a 'Hi!', and then go with a fact: "Nice day today!" or "That's a great sweater, it picks up the blue in your eyes!"..and walk away, leave it at that.

Go slow, be gradual, and it either will happen..or it won't..with less risk and therefore less anxiety.

Well it certainly seems like you have the potential, to be confident (the looks remark) everyone is unique... Life isn't scripted, you you have to take things as they come, and despite being shy, I would say do your best just to try to have a very basic conversation, (hi, how are you...etc etc)

just loosen your guard, its not as bad as you think it might be.
