Default This always bloody happens...xD

Last time I got offered a job interview I ended up getting two in the same week, making me have to choose which one I preferred doing. Now, I've got an offer for an apprentice interview, and also an opportunity to take on a Health & Social care college course. I'm not sure what I want to do.

The apprenticeship is for an Office Administrator. I get paid £100+ a week and I believe it's for a years duration. It's IT work which I am kinda interested in, and it's work experience which would be of much benefit to me.

The H&S course is two years, would give me an extra career path to choose from assuming I complete the course, I'd still be entitled to £30 a week, and it would practically give me another opportunity at having a decent student life.

The problem is; my apprenticeship interview is in two weeks. The college course starts next week. There is no guarantee I get the apprenticeship, and if I fail it means I've got nothing to do. The college course has a definite opening, but I'm still not 100% if it's the sort of work I want to do, and whether or not it's the investment of two years. I spoke with my parents about this, and at the moment I'm leaning more towards the college course, but I was just interested in what others think? Forgive me if I bump this like crazy but I ain't got long to decide; my decision will be my own but if there's something I've neglected to think about and it's brought to light by one of you, it would help.

Both can open lots of opportunities for you.

From experience the administrator one sounds the best. There is more of a chance that you may kept on after the apprenticeship. You can also keep going with an apprenticeship and do level 3. You can more easily get a job.

But then again health & socila care is good. I wish I tried harder when I studied it. If you o do health and social care stick at it and don't fall behind like I did!

Sounds like you're in between a rock and a hard place here. Could you start taking the course and see how you like/get a feel for it? If you don't like it, you could always go for the apprenticeship. That way, if you fail, you would still have the course to fall back on. If you got the apprenticeship, you could drop the course, couldn't you? Or is that not an option?

That's true, but I'm not entirely sure about it being easier to get a job though; there's not many admin jobs where I live.

What's H&S care like? Is it difficult? From experience did they actually teach you stuff or are you pretty much left to figure stuff out on your own? Assuming you had work placements, what did you do and how did you feel about it? I'm pretty much going into this will little knowledge of the subject.

Indeed.

Well, that's certainly an idea, and was what I was planning to do. The problem is, I don't think the short period of time I would have at the college would give me a proper feel for the course, and the apprenticeship interview is on a college day; can't be skipping classes really as it'll be a bad first impression.

Which one sounds more appealing to you?

A) Sitting in an office and getting experience
B) Helping other people also gaining experience AND getting a degree out of it

I get a qualification out of the apprenticeship as well; unfortunately it's only admin-related which is not particularly something I'd wanted as a career.

But, from the way you put it... definitely B.

I say, do the h+s interview, if your accepted notify the admin employee and tell them you don't need the job, if you don't get the h+s course then go for the admin

Change of plan since I got an email from one of the tutors doing the H&S course. They offer part-time courses for counselling studies, which is more the type of thing I'd like to do; unfortunately it simply isn't viable for me to pay an £810 entry fee for a course that's only 4 hours a week.

Soooooo...I'll go for the apprenticeship interview and hope I get it. Then I'll get me qualification after a year whilst saving up money; then I'll do a counselling studies course whenever it's feasible.

EDIT:

Okay, well apparently I *may* be able to get on the course for free if I'm unemployed and receiving benefits, the latter of which I'm not. There's too little time for me to spend pissing about trying to get on Jobseekers Allowance so I'll just have to do the CS course at another time.

I know I already said on MSN but I'm now thinking the apprenticeship is a better idea :P
