Default Travelling

I want to travel. I realised it recently after hearing a kind of... motivational speaker gave us a talk.

I don't know where to start though. I was to travel anywhere, I want to see the world and see the way people live in different countries which sounds simple in concept, but how do I get flights? How do I keep the cost down? How do I find places to stay? Should I stay in a hostel? I have a a friend in America who could potentially let me stay at his house...

So many questions!

Has anyone had any experience? Any tips and guidance would be appreciated!

to help with flights you can sign up for skymiles.. then the more you travel the more discounts you get, sometimes even free flights

Cheapest place to travel would be europe by far bc cheap hostels and cheap travel by train. American east coast has lots of cities near each other u can get from pne to another by train. West coast america is to spread put. South america and africa might have programs u can volunteer for and pay for ur travel and lodging.

Furthest I've been in Orkney! It was nice, don't get me wrong, it was all hill-y and there was great ice cream but it's just not quite Italy is it?
Looked a lot like Scotland actually.

If you keep costs down by a lot (which is very possible), Be prepared for discomfort. It's not that big of a deal (at least it wasn't for me), but some people have problems with it. I have a decent amount of experience traveling in Asia and there are places you can stay for very very cheap. If you are good with managing money you can spend very little on everything but the plane ticket over. Especially if you enjoy the local food a lot you can save money that way.

My advice is to first get a passport if you don't have one. After that, like others said, just do the research for the places that you want to visit. You should be able to find good, cheap accommodations and plane tickets if you just look. Also, getting into certain places can be a long and arduous task. Make sure to plan well in advance and complete all of the required steps for entry into a certain country.
