I'm half and half. No, you shouldn't be the one to pay so that she can come see you..but I have been known to give friends petrol money if they've come further than usual, just because i know they don't have much money.

It costs me 5 dollars to literally anywhere with my really bad mileage (13 to the gallon...) I would never ask my friends for gas money to come see them. Now with that being said if we decide to go on a trip that is farther than usual everyone typically chips in on the gas cost no matter whos car or who wanted to go... Nor would I have a problem asking for gas money if it was more than say 60 miles and it was family... Or a particular wealthy and really good friend.

I tend to go the route of paying for your own gas. Personally, I would be a bit put off if my friend asked for me to pay for gas just so they could come visit me. I pay for my own gas when I drive long distances for people - I'm not about to pay for them to come visit me.

However, this idea of splitting the cost seems like a decent enough compromise.
