Default College help

Hello Everyone,

I am a college freshman who is entering second semester. There are lots of girls in my classes, which is never a bad thing. There are definetly some cute girls that I would like to befriend. How can I break the ice and befriend them without directly hitting on them (i honestly am not into getting a girlfriend at the moment, so staying single for me haha)?
I am sort of shy when meeting people first on, but I am sociable to people i know semi well. Also, once i befriend them, how can I meet up with them on a consistent basis? Because I commute, my parents expect me home at around 1:30pm to do homework and such. I feel like that is affecting my social life. How can I change this around?

Thanks for the help everyone!

Talk to them about assignments you might not understand or ask if you want to work on them together. If you have the chance to do group work perhaps ask them if you could be with them. Or since it's a new class in a new semester just introduce yourself and say why you took that particular class and then ask them why they did.

As for your parents, you're 19. 1:30 for a curfew? Tell them you want a social life and that in order to do it you'll be home later. Assure them you'll get your work done and that you can balance social life and work (As long as you really can).

I find if you like hang out with a group of people, the pressure is lessened when it comes to talking to new people. So if you want to just form a study group, or meet up with a group of people somewhere on the weekends or something (unless you have curfew then too), it'll be more of a casual situation, which you could probably handle better.
