The thrill of childbirth (as I'm told) isn't so much the 'surprise' of finding out gender at the moment of birth, but rather the miracle of bringing another life into the world. There's enough drama in that, I doubt the doc shouting it's gender adds much.

If you're the type of person who likes to plan ahead and have some structure and some basics in place (including your expectations!), then find out. If, on the other hand, you need the suspense, then wait. But, I don't think either choice changes the drama of childbirth.
Thank you for your opinion. It's appreciated!

Obviously, I do agree, seeing and holding your child for the first time will be one of the most precious moments of my life. I have been told though, by many who have had 'surprises', that it was absolutely amazing finding out at birth. I am torn though. I know I can be prepared even if I don't know the gender.

I'd wait and see.
Gender neutral things actually seem to look better To be honest, pink and blue gender specific things are so generic.
It'd add an element of excitement.
My mum waited until birth to know what I was and all my baby photos are in gender neutral things.
She even had two names, a boys name and a girls name chosen, she just had to wait and see which name she was going to use. I could have been Simon Allan, but I'm Sarah Michelle (:

I think it'd be exciting to wait until the birth.

Thanks again for all your advice!

I did end up finding out the gender. At my 15 week u/s the tech said she "thought" she saw boy parts. I was busting to see if that was true so at my anatomy scan at 20 weeks I asked but they told me it was a girl. I had a 3d/4d U/S last week and the baby is without a doubt a GIRL! She flashed us her goods several times. Will be in the 3rd trimester is a couple of weeks!
