Default Sort of worried

Hey guys i've been really bothered the past month so i've come here seeking advice

My girlfriend got on the depo provera shot a bit over a month ago so it's for sure in effect, but the thing is her doctor did not administer the shot when she was on her period and that's when it should be given. So I've read up that it could take 2-3 weeks for it to work and we had one pregnancy scare so she took a plan b pill and we weren't worried. But seeing as she should be getting her period around the last 2 weeks of the month she said and the months nearly done she's worried she could possibly be pregnant.

We don't use protection now that she's on the shot, I just pull out before ejaculating but I accidentally have gotten some sperm in her because well I was stupid >.< But it was just barely in so it didn't go too far in. However, seeing as that happened after 1 full month and the shot is over 99% effective should we even have anything to worry about? We understand the shot does interfere greatly with menstrual cycles but does that start occurring even on the very first shot? She said her period got messed up even from being on the pill earlier in the year.

Thanks for any help you guys can give ^___________^

Hi Terence.

I'm no expert on D-P, but I think you should call the doc who administers the shot and explain this and see what he says.

A pregnancy scare has the effect of really creeping you out, it adds a huge amount of anxiety, so it's understandable you'd be really worried now. But, the antidote to worry is info, and the best source for that is her doc. Maybe you can be there (or on the phone) to hear what's said, and also ask some of these questions.

Hey Sam, well I don't really have a way of getting in contact with her doctor because she lives over in the next city just 15 mins. away but i'll get her to talk to him when she goes back. She's going to get a pregnancy test next week if she doesn't have her period and will ask about it then. I've learned just about all I can about Depo Provera on the internet and it calms me and assures me that she's probably not pregnant but there's still that hint of worry. Thanks for the advice =]

Birth control, shots or pills, can irregulate periods. Sometimes a woman can skip, or get it frequently or even continually for weeks on end, so her missing her period could be a side effect of the birth control trying to kick in.

On the other hand, birth control can take several months to take full effect and work properly, especially if it's her first time on it or if she's switching. Adjustment is unpredictable and it all depends on her body.

If she is also stressing, changing her diet, etc. then THAT can also take an effect on the menstrual cycle, especially with the seasons changing this time of year. Is her period always predictable? If so, then there is a higher likelihood that she's pregnant. If her period has been irregular before, well then you might have a little less to worry about.

You can never be really sure, so the best way is to get a test.

Next time you have sex, wear a condom. Not just to take an extra step at being safe, but to protect each other from STIs.

Ah, thanks wings and well she was on the pill before and off for a few months and went on the shot. She's spotting now but hasn't had a period so i'm just hoping it's the depo shot's effect of getting rid of the period completely. She's going for a pregnancy test sometime soon so we can't find out.
