I think I may be trying my luck asking here but I have a question about carseats. I have a convertable carseat with a rear facing weight limit of 35lbs and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a length/height limit on rearfacing? Does it matter if the child's legs are longer than the seat? I know I've seen length limits on infant carriers but I can't find one on this one.
I know they just changed the car seat recommendations to have children/babies rear facing as long as possible but it would be helpful to know if theres a length limit - it just seems to me that if their legs are too long it might be dangerous?
If you call up your police station they should probably know, there's days here in NY where everyone with carseats goes and they check to make sure they're good/ in right/ etc. And your best bet other then that, is google car seat regulations for (yourstatehere)

ummm. i have one rear facing right now. i need one more.
but my gram was telling me that when they start out growing it, then it is time to either get a new one, or convert it; she was giving me a rundown on things while shopping.. so if the child's legs hang off the end, then it is time to convert it. this should be in the direction booklet. you can also, as kate said, go to your local police station for safety information.
unfortunately my fire/police station is kind of clueless on that whole thing. i've volunteered there before and they wouldn't know anymore than someone who had read the manual =/
Regulations in my state only really state a child has to be in a car seat/booser till age 8 or something. nothing too specific.
I went back and found the manual and found the length recommendations (i dont remember seeing it before, i honestly didn't think it said). Their minimum for forward facing is 34 inches and that seems strange and really long to me like their legs would be squished and uncomfortable. I just wasn't really sure when to know they've grown out of it length-wise. I would have thought a child would be grown out of rear facing long before 34 inches because at 30 or before their legs are hanging way off... oh well, I guess i found my answer.
