Re: Dream Meaning
Well, I think the accuracy of dream interpretation is based on two things: First, the qualifications of the interpreter, and second, the *issues* with the dreamer.
First and foremost dream interpretation is a part of therapy, it's a part of treatment. It's a way of getting at the material the patient struggles with, the idea being that those struggles don't necessarily stop at nite, they just come out in a different form.
Second, I loathe and detest when anything psychological becomes a cute parlour trick more for attention rather than what it is: A legitimate part of human understanding, in the context of treatment, of helping someone better understand what's going on for them and help them adjust better to it.
So, as a part of therapy, dreams can be a very useful source of info for both the doc and the patient. They can also serve as a poignant reminder to the dreamer that there's *stuff* going on for them, either to discuss with their doc, or to seek one out. As discussion over coffee, however, dreams are up there with soap operas. And it's too bad so many equate this stuff with mere entertainment.
Also, I think the comparo btw'n dreams and horoscopes is inaccurate and unfair: A horoscope is impersonal and speaks to human trusim ("It might be a difficult day today, but with perseverance it will work out for you"), dreams are the result of one's working brain, it's very personal. What it means (if anything) says as much about the interpreter (and their qualifications) as it does about the dreamer.
