I wish that I could be on birth control, but my mother is completely against it. It isn't to protect against pregnancy, it is to help with the severity of my periods, which birth control is supposed to help tremendously with. When I become sexually active then I will definitely put myself on some type of contraceptive. It is a responsible action to take.
The implant sounds like a great idea. I may have to look into it soon.
Sure, there are birth control failures, but when we're talking 99% effectiveness, the chances of you actually becoming pregnant are practically nil. The fact that there are a bunch of you who claim to have been using b/c and still got pregnant doesn't make sense...there shouldn't be that many of you, who found Teen Forumz, no less..to talk about it.
Like any medication, oral contraceptives have to be taken properly..and at the right dose..consistently, and according to the directions. If any of those conditions aren't met, then the meds won't work, resulting in pregnancy.
Your docs should have told you about this, as well as the possible cross effects of these meds with any other ones you might have been prescribed for another condition.

I had been on birth control for almost 4 years when I got pregnant. Like anyone, i struggled the first year or so remembering to take it but I had been taking it religiously for about 2-3 years at the same time everyday when I got pregnant. I hadn't been on any other medications, hadn't been sick, Couldn't afford to go out drinking etc; nothing that would decrease it's effectiveness. We also were using condoms, had no problem with them breaking or anything.
Shonna, everyone has a story here, I know....and 99% is still not 100%, so maybe you're the one unlucky 1%. But, you might want to have a chat with the MD who was prescribing your Pill and see if the dose was appropriate..esp. now! You don't want a repeat.

Yes, but if you think about it, say they're basing the statistic off 100 surveyed people and determined that of those 100 people, only one got pregnant.
Now apply that statistic to say, 20+ million people.
The statistic would still be about the same but there'd be a lot more pregnant women in that statistic. It's not really a stretch to believe that several of them found their way to Teen Forumz.
Not saying that some people aren't lying, they probably are, but it does still happen more than you think. I myself know several people it's happened to and I know that they as well definitely take their birth control properly, or, at least know enough to take it probably as they themselves work in the medical field.
But I've already talked to my doctor about it.
The pill I was on was the only one that had ever worked right for me as far as side effects were concerned.
I was tried on 4 different kinds in the beginning, found that Alesse 28 was the best fit for my body. Was on it for almost two years and for some reason the pharmacist started giving me the store brand instead of the name brand and it just completely fucked me right up. I was like a PMSing pregnant woman putting on a bunch of weight, mood swings from hell, food cravings, terrible skin breakouts etc, so I told them that it had to be the name brand, and that's what it was ever since.
