Re: I hate myself
It sounds like you have a very bad case of adolescence. Good news: It's temporary.
Just about everyone dislikes some part of themselves, and magnifies it to unrealistic proportions. I think it comes form everything we're accustomed to changing so much. Chaulk it up to (what else?) hormones.
It makes it worse when teens do their thing of picking out whatever they see as a vulnerability in another, and mentioning it..largely to make themselves feel better.
Try to ignore it, try to realize they don't have any special powers to see the "Real" you and comment accurately on that, and work on those parts of yourself that you know from childhood are good..and decent. Do you play an instrument? A Sport? Are you an artist or a poet? Surely there are things that you know you are good at, and make sure you continue to do them. They're fun, and they remind us what we're about.
And as an FYI, thinking nice thoughts about yourself (even if they aren't accurate) doesn't make you arrogant. Using those beliefs to behave in ways, or to develop attitudes towards others that puts you above them as a person is. A little self love is a good thing....and isn't the toxic narcissism you're afraid of developing. Most people who are like that never think to worry they're arrogant in the first place, which is perhaps the real culprit.
