Default Pubic Hair

So I am really curious as to what everyone here thought about something, and your opinion is greatly appreciated. I'm 19 years old, and I have been shaving my pubic hair on and off since I was about 16. I love being shaved and feeling smooth most of the time, but shaving has its downsides. Usually it itches for just a bit afterwards and I get these little red bumps or pimples all around my pubic area that aren't too flattering. But the benefits of being shaved always make me go back to it

Recently I've been researching alot about laser hair removal (ideal image to be specific) and it looks really interesting. Laser hair removal is permanent and it would get rid of all those little bumps or ingrown hairs and I would never have to shave again. I called the place up and I have an appointment consultation/evaluation thing in a few days to go talk to the technician ladies about it.

My only problems are, that I'm 19, I live with my parents (who don't and I would rather them not know about this situation), I'm on a student budget right now, and I'm a little hesitant about the whole "permanent" thing.

So I'm curious, has anyone here had laser hair removal? Does anyone else here (guys or girls) have thoughts on shaving your pubic area and/or laser hair removal?

Have you seen the side-effects or risks of laser hair removal?
Scarring
Hyper-pigmentation (darkness of skin)
Burns
Infections
Crusting
Blisters
Swelling
Itchiness

So, is it worth it?

I shave, i'd never take it to the extent of a laser "treatment"

I wouldn't recommend it. Itching or irritation is when you shave. Have you tried just trimming?

when i very first started shaving it itched some.. but now it never does. i shave every other day so there's never really a chance for it to itch.

also, it honestly does make a difference in what kind of razor you use.

are you dry shaving or using shaving cream or what? conditioner works really well for shaving that area.

I use a Phillips Norelco Bodygroom that is built specifically for shaving pubes, not a razor or any cream or conditioner. What conditioner would you suggest? I dont mind shaving about every other day like I usually do right now to keep it from itching and to keep it clean and smooth, but never having to shave again is a tempting option.

so you don't use anything at all when shaving? that could be part of the problem. i just usually use whatever conditioner is in my shower that i'm using at the time.

the thought has crossed my mind about laser and not having to shave anymore, but since i do it every other day it only takes me like 10 seconds, so it's not really a big deal to do it. have you thought about waxing? they have those home wax kits you can buy now

I used to shave and it was ok, but i always found that i got stuble a day or so after shaving and i don't like how irritated it gets. Before we left for our cruise i figured it was time to go get waxed, first of all don't EVER do it yourself expecially not the first time so many things can go wrong. If you have a high pain tollerance it won't be that bad, i myself don't have a high pain tollerance(i am terrified to death of needles and find they hurt so so bad) but my eyes only watered once. It is not overly expensive and lasts much much longer then shaving. Also it will slowly thin out your hair(waxing damages the hair folicle so it doesn't grow back, eventually). The lady that i go to said she has a customer that has barely any hair left because she has been waxing for so long.

With waxing you can get the same bikini rash and red bumps, expecially those first few times, but there are creams and liquids that you can use to dimish that, something with salicylic acid in it preferably.
