I would say it depends on what sport you play. If you play soccer then you probably will focus more on your lower body, but you should still workout your entire body.
The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism. Each muscle has a plateau and muscle growth decrease as your muscle gets bigger (if that makes sense). So it's harder to gain muscle if you already have muscle - pretty much. With that said, you would want to workout your entire body to maximize your muscle growth and thus increase your metabolism. Just something you should consider when working out.
I'm obsessed with doing crunches and other ab related exercises. I've being doing them for sometime now. First I did them to get abs, now I do them to maintain it
