Default Sleep Deprivation

In the past I've tried to get at least 6 hours of sleep, but recently I've been getting less than that. For the past three days now, I've gotten less than 5 hours of sleep, in one instance less than 4 hours of sleep. For the past few days, especially today, I've felt more mentally off than usual. Not necessarily tired (although there are a few moments when I feel like passing out), but just like a headache, and can't think as clearly. Oh, and I passed out at my desk when I came home today. This sleep deprivation, is this damaging to my body, as many people have told me? Is it just mental health, or am I actually harming my body?

The reason I stay up so late is to do homework and such. Write papers and stuff.

it weakens your immune system because your body uses the time when you sleep to restore itself and it isn't getting the chance to do that.

I was an insomniac, and I am talking no sleep, none for days. It made me irritable, angry, and then after some time I started to hallucinate some guy with like a pornstar mustache was following me around, no lie.

The short answer is that it is bad for your health. Not getting enough sleep has numerous side effects for your body. Passing out is your body trying to make up the sleep debt that you have accumulated. Humans need sleep for their bodies to survive really. Plus, I can tell you that it's not fun to keep staying up like that. I've used to work on like 3 hours of sleep a night and it really has no beneficial side effects.

You should really be getting about 8 hours sleep. One night i didn't sleep at all and i started seeing things. Not nice. Plus you get dark circles and you cant concentrate or think properly.

You need to relax before you go to sleep. I.e. read a book, go for a jog in the woods, listen to calming music, etc.

Then when you try to get to sleep it will be a lot easier.

Also, make sure you get into a rountine: Bed by 10:30pm, alarm at 7:00am, shower, breakfast, get dressed, off to school. Then at weekends: late night, late morning.

If you get into a routine, it is also a lot easier to get to sleep
