I'm not uncomfortable with this topic and I don't mind talking about it with guys because it's a natural thing that's apart of life (the menstrual cycle), but I've made this girls only because obviously guys aren't gonna be able to help me on this one, haha.
ANYWAYS, I've never tried a tampon before and I was talking to my two best friends the other day and they told me that it was really painful and just uncomfortable. This kinda got me freaked out because I've always been under the impression that if you insert it properly and far up enough, you won't feel it so much and you can go about your daily activities. My friends said that when they were sitting cross-legged and swimming it was especially painful, as well as after the tampon being removed.
I wonder if they both didn't apply it properly or is this normal? Does it hurt at first but you get used to it over time? Is the experience different for everyone? I'd like to try them because it would make my life a lot easier in some situations, also pads make me feel self-conscious sometimes. Leakage is not fun either. Actually, none of having a period is fun haha. Oh well. xD
So yeah, help? I apologize if this sounded incredibly noobish to some. I'm still learning the ropes of being a woman haha. Thanks for reading!
They don't hurt for me I think alot of people don't realize you have to really ermm lack of better words shove it up there really far
When I first started useing them I wasn't Puting it very far up afraid of it being like lost of there forever, but trust me the string out come off you will get it out
And I never really hurt for me exept when I didn't have it far enough up

It will naturally hurt a bit if you are too nervous because the muscles down there will be tense and you will feel it more. Plus, if you're a virgin, it's normal it will be really awkward for something to stay in there so long haha. It's easier to apply if you crouch down.
As for your friends saying it hurts when they go swimming... it's kind of normal, but it didn't really hurt me. It's just really uncomfortable, specially underwater, because you can feel it 'inflate' (since it gets obviously soaked from water).
I rarely use tampons myself but I'd advise you to be wary about how much time you leave them in.

Just try them you can only find out yourself, for some woman they just don't like it, more commonly dislike it if they hymen isn't broken or they don't masturbate. I also suggest using Tampax brand with the cardboard applicators, they work best, most comfortable, go in/out easy, and sometimes the plastic apps can be painful cause the tips are plastic and more sharp (it doesn't hurt hurt but i don't like them) so till you get used to them and feel confident branching out with other brands id try those. Ive tried every brand there is and tampax is best
But definitely try them despite what your friends say, because I mean they're AMAZING hah. so much cleaner especailly if you don't shave/wax down there, you can move more freely, smell fresher, less conscious, and then if you user liners instead of pads for leakage (which when it does leak it's very little normally) you don't even feel like your on your period other then other symptoms.
But yeah the only times it should hurt is if it isn't far enough up, or sometimes different brands the cotton tampon itself is rougher, (which is again why I like Tampax over other ones, it feels secure and more soft)
From joy to sorrow, yesterday to tomorrow, you've been there. Friends like you are rare, your touch is so gentle,

Don't let your friends scare you :p I was scared to use tampons at first but when I started using them it was like a freakin miracle... Tampons are awesome lol. It never hurt for me. The only time I didn't like them was when I used the cardboard applicators because it doesn't "slide in" as easily so I recommend plastic, especially for a beginner.
Don't let them scare you, 95% of the friends that i've had said that they prefer it to pads. Not only because they're more convenient but they're better at actually adsorbing the blood. as well as some of my friends have used both together that way in case any blood leaks. but that's just them maybe just try is but read up on this first.
TSS is very rare and only happens if you have an absorbency one to high for you or you leave it in for to long
