Cog What are some Pro's and Con's of Being vegetarian?

What are some important Pro's about being vegetarian, and what are some reasons not to be. (Also known as Con's). I stopped eating meat at the beginning of June last year. Some how I had a realization that I don't have to eat meat. It's not necessary. As a human, I know we were all born omnivores, but the amount of meat that some of us eat is just over kill. My mom had this boyfriend who would eat either pork, steak or poultry every night. I just don't think that that's necessary. I know that meat provides a substantial amount of protein to our diets, but we can get an equivalent amount by combining certain fruits/grains/veggies. I'm the only one in my family who is vegetarian, and my mom and dad hate it. They don't support my choices at all. My mom keeps trying to guilt me into eating meat by giving me the whole speech about starvation around the world, and how those starving people can't pick and choose, so neither should I. But I've seen many times on many different websites about Vegetarianism, that if everyone went vegetarian, or decreased their meat intake, that we could feed thousands of people with the grains that we feed to live stock.

Getting back to my original point in writing this, what are pro's about being vegetarian, and what are con's? Which, in your opinion out weighs the other, and why? Thanks!

Pros: Getting to experience a false sense of moral superiority over others because of your diet.

Cons: Malnutrition (going vegan is far more complicated than simply eating a salad 3 times a day) vegan food is generally more expensive than non vegan equivalents, the rest of society ignores you and continues to "murder" animals, etc.

Becoming a vegan because you want to feel like you're making a difference in reducing animal "murder" is the dietary equivalent of clicking "Like" on those Facebook photos that say "Like this 2 end hunger in Africa." It makes you feel good but doesn't actually do anything.

There is also a huge difference between being a vegetarian and a vegan.
I'm vegeterian simply because I don't enjoy the taste of meat that much and also because the meat industry kindda make me want to vomit. I don't want to encourage that.
Though I eat fish and I eat meat that is offered to me when I go eat somwhere (or meat that my uncle get from hunting).
And it's not diffucult at all to be vegetarian, actually, i never think about eating meat, it's just not in my habbits anymore.

Pro: I belive vegetarian, for the most part, eat healthier than most no-vegetarian. At some point, when you're vegeterian you have to think about getting enough proteins and all the nutriments you need if you don't want to be weak. So in a way, you are more aware of what you're eating. People who eat meat, usually eat too much of it and get wayyy too much proteins everyday, which isn't necessarily better.
Con: being a asshole about it or about anyone who is not a vegetarian. ( but that's really on both side, I know some un-vegterian that are asshole)

Pros:
You're not eating animals.
You're diet is healthier (you'll not be eating as much fat).

Those are the main reasons and it's definitely worth it.

I have been a vegetarian for two years, and I have never felt healthier.
Pros:
- Less fat
- Feeling healthy
- Feeling good

Cons:
- If not done properly, lack of vitamins, protein, iron etc.
